Democratizing education through partnerships with CanopyLAB
By Lydia Quevedo, Marketing & Communications Intern
This is an open invitation to join our global partner network of 80+ organizations. Our existing partners have already created 250+ free courses for youth on our free learning platform the LAB. The topics range from climate action and social justice to sexual health and reproductive rights.
Becoming a LAB partner is more than just a way of publishing digital courses. Partner organizations enjoy the many benefits of open education, such as engaging with a much broader audience and finding a way to continue giving “live” workshops in a world restricted by the spread of the coronavirus.
We’ve asked our partners why chosen to be a LAB parter. Here is what they value the most:
1. A virtual social space supporting workshops & community-based projects
Suspending programs isn’t an option, especially when working in social justice or with vulnerable, at-risk groups that are already being disproportionately affected by COVID-19. By creating free and open online courses, our partners can keep providing tools and knowledge to their communities and the wider public without compromising on health, accessibility, or quality.

2. An opportunity to outsource your work and mission
The platform’s intuitive, user-centered social design, allows a wider audience to benefit from virtual learning. For instance, learners can easily stay up to date on the latest courses via individual partner organization pages. CanopyLAB also promotes every new course and partnership project on various SoMe channels, making sure everyone on our platform knows what’s new.

3. An accessible, centralized hub for resource storage and sharing
Why organize your resources as links on a webpage when you can store them together in a course? By building a free, open course with CanopyLAB, our partners are able to consolidate videos, texts, and audio resources all in one place. This makes it easier for their learners and followers to find information, with the added benefit of an optimized scaffold for consuming, processing, and engaging with this knowledge.
4. Expert advice on eLearning and course design
We free our partners from struggling with pedagogy and empower them to continue with what they do best: creating, recycling and sharing content that inspires youth to action. Our team of expert elearning designers support the digitization and virtual course creation throughout the entire process. CanopyLAB offers individualized training sessions as well as monthly open events to give partners the skills to choose the perfect exercises and layout for their content.
5. An instant global community
Anyone with an email address can join the LAB – we welcome learners coming from all over the world and all walks of life. This means students can engage with ideas from communities that are highly different from their own, which facilitates and deepens learning experiences. It also helps our partners’ missions and messages spread beyond their home city, country, or continent.
