Who is El Caballito de Palermo?
El Caballito de Palermo is a multidisciplinary civil society organization in Buenos Aires, Argentina dedicated to supporting the development of children’s cognitive and emotional competences based on the game of chess which compliments a diverse range of activities and strategy development. The team collaborates with 10 teachers who lead classes to our 50+ partners, reaching 1,000 students in all of the schools. Their vision is to be recognized as a global, avant-garde, and innovative institution of the art of thought.
Goals & Objectives
The objective of Caballito’s workshops for students to develop thinking competences including concentration, memory, alternative thinking as well as logical and mathematical planning. Other goals include promoting creativity, innovation, and teamwork. The biggest challenge is to translate in-person workshops to a virtual setting that facilitate competence development for children of all ages. Caballito wants to ensure that every student learns how to solve various problems, make difficult decisions, and understand how to confront the consequences of their choices. The results they want to generate is that students have space where they can push boundaries, work through frustration, and tolerate adversity.
Approach
Linear vs. non-linear learning is relevant terminology to become acquainted with when discussing adaptive learning. As linear learning leads each learner through the same path, the same content, in the same pace and challenging the same way regardless whether this process may turn out to repeat what the learner already knows or shoot way over the learner’s knowledge level and experiences – resulting in very limited effect and waste of time in both cases, the non-linear learning adapts to the individual learner.
Personalized learning
CanopyLAB gives Caballito de Palermo the unique opportunity for the exponential growth of their educational outreach first by being able to train a larger number of teachers through effective digital training so they can add chess in their educational repertoire. Furthermore, they view the CanopyLAB platform as the ideal way to generate a “multiplying effect” to ensure that chess pedagogies, as well as socio-emotional and cognitive development strategies, benefit young learners in any corner of the planet by providing open courses to the public on the LAB.

Results
Caballito is expanding its footprint in the world of innovative education, sharing its chess methodologies, resources, and experience through a variety of courses catered specifically to audiences beyond teachers. Their course offerings include courses designed for mothers, fathers, and any other person who is interested in learning and teaching chess. User feedback is essential for Caballito, as they see the course creation as a constraint developmental process where their users play a key role in the growth of their organization.
At CanopyLAB we designed a simple and social platform for digital learning experiences.
