A social network marries a learning platform

We consider ourselves the first to marry the two concepts; a social network- and a learning platform integrated into one architecture resulting in a transformative learning experience.

Why is schooling together when elearning is alone? Should individuals taking a course online not have one or several persons to connect with for collaboration, asking a question, engaging in a discussion or raising a concern?

CanopyLAB is the embodiment of a social learning platform¹, giving users the opportunity to dive into collaborative interactions online through our online exercises. The concept of social learning is based on theory that people learn in response to their environment. Humans are social and learn together rather than in isolation, which, unfortunately, is often the case with online learning. So the question is: Why is schooling together when elearning is alone? Should individuals taking a course online not have one or several persons to connect with for collaboration, asking a question, engaging in a discussion or raising a concern?

A major benefit of social learning is the exchange of knowledge between people of different backgrounds. This also increases motivation as learners become part of a community by encouraging each other, showcasing their development and using other learners as resources. Being a critical consumer of knowledge, noticing differences and similarities as well as understanding other people’s perspectives are part of the most sought out for 21st century skills.

We believe that online learning can and should be social.

To make this effective, we bring people together through a learning structure that reinforces interactions between people online. Our clients like our platform’s social media functions and the fact that we are learning-driven. Let’s face it, almost everyone has a Facebook or other social media account, which makes our social structure easy and intuitive to navigate. CanopyLAB moves beyond just adding a chat function to a platform, we create collaborative online learning spaces.

Going private or open to all?

This year, we are collaborating with the Danish Design Centre (DDC) on their mission to promote the use of design in business and industry. DCC has created free courses on our open learning platform the LAB to engage global citizens to apply design thinking methodologies to their everyday lives. On May 1st 2019, DDC released the first course entitled REMODEL. To secure a spot, you can sign up here today.

¹ Social Learning Theory, theorized by Albert Bandura, posits that people learn from one another, via observation, imitation, and modeling.

At CanopyLAB we designed a simple and social platform for digital learning experiences.
