Implementing your cloud-based LMS has never been easier

Picking a learning management system or learning platform can be super stressful. Especially if you are doing it in a bit of a hurry with a set deadline. But you never have to compromise on quality, because it has never been easier to compare solutions. In addition, generally the price point is a lot lower than it was a few years ago. That always happens with technology; as demand increases and the technologies are democratized, price inevitably goes down.

Especially if you are doing it in a bit of a hurry […]

Below is a checklist you can consult when picking a learning management system, learning platform, or learning experience platform in your organization.

  1. Pick a solution that is cloud-based. Most are today, but you don’t want to have to go through a painful process as your provider transitions to cloud – because everyone will eventually. Cloud-based is essential because it does not require any downloads or updates.

For a while people thought that mobile-first way the only way to go, but it turns out that a lot of people actually prefer working on a computer when learning.

  2. Any learning solution has to be responsive – which means work across PC/Mac, tablet, and smartphone. For a while people thought that mobile-first way the only way to go, but it turns out that a lot of people actually prefer working on a computer when learning. So make sure that your system can do both because that way you are accommodating that your organization has different learning needs.
  3. Cash is king and implementing a learning solution has to pay off, meaning give a return on the investment. Just 3-5 years ago you could easily pay more than 100.000 USD for a corporate learning solution, but today more players have opted for a Software as a service model (SaaS) where you pay a small fee for each user on the learning platform. The prices can typically be anywhere from 1-12 dollars per person.
  4. Social cohesiveness and connection are essential. If we have learned anything from the COVID-19 pandemic, it is that we can totally work from home and learn from home and be productive, but we have to feel a sense of belonging to our place of work or where we study. We want to be a part of a community, even if we are at home. So look for a platform that allows you to create a learning community, through sharing, co-creating, and collaborative exercises.

  5. Did you know that many industries have a mirror industry, an industry different from their own but that they are inspired by and learn a lot from?. For learning platforms, looking to companies such as Netflix and the media industry and Amazon and consumer goods has brought with it massive innovation in the past couple of years. What Netflix and Amazon have mastered is something called adaptive algorithms or personalization. Through detecting what you watch and read, they can predict what you like. That is why your recommendations on Netflix are different from your spouse, sibling, or kids. Some learning platforms have adaptive algorithms and quizzes that help make the learning experience similar to that.
  6. It’s well documented today that we have to focus on skills and competencies and not just knowledge and content if we want our students or workforce to be relevant two, five, and ten years from now. As jobs change, largely due to automation, we have to pick a learning platform that also enables learners to master adaptability, creativity, critical reflection, cross-cultural communication, and much more.
