Meet CanopyLAB: An impact edtech company from Denmark

Get to know CanopyLAB better in 3 min or less.

Who are we?
CanopyLAB is an impact edtech company from Denmark with employees in Denmark, the US, Vietnam, Peru, and Colombia. We have developed an adaptive, social, and intelligent learning experience platform (LXP) for informal learning, upskilling, and re-skilling.

The Canopy vs. StudentLAB
We use our technology to create different kinds of learning spaces. Clients buy the software (Canopy) and create their own learning space with it. In tech lingo, you also call that a white label. They brand it with their corporate identity and host courses on compliance, onboarding, language learning etc.

StudentLAB is a space created by us at CanopyLAB in collaboration with 120+ international NGOs. We used the Canopy software to create a learning space for youth where they can engage in informal learning with the NGOs around a group of topics

StudentLAB is a space created by us at CanopyLAB in collaboration with 120+ international NGOs. We used the Canopy software to create a learning space for youth where they can engage in informal learning with the NGOs around a group of topics rooted in social sciences: Human Rights, Sports for Development & Peace, Space Exploration, the SDGs, Sexual & Reproductive Rights, Mental Health and so much more. All courses on StudentLAB are free of charge.

Why create a space for informal learning with NGOs?
NGOs, foundations, and museums play a pivotal role in shaping our world and values. Collectively referred to as the 3rd sector, these actors help protect human rights, campaign for social change, and have expert knowledge and experience that we all can learn from. Facilitating a digital connection between all of that experience and know-how and young people passionate about learning more about how to clean up the oceans, what rights we will fight over in space, and exploring sex and identity formation is what studentLAB is all about.

What is informal learning?
The courses offered by NGOs to students are not accredited and exist outside the formal educational system. You get a diploma from CanopyLAB, but the courses do not count towards college credit or anything similar.

What is TeacherLAB?
During the pandemic, we created a space for teachers in English (TeacherLAB) and Spanish (DocenteLAB) where teachers can come together to explore courses on topics related to online teaching, mental health in the classroom, different pedagogical approaches, and much more. Over 100,000 teachers currently use this space. TeacherLAB is also free of charge.

What is our business model?
We sell our LXP software using a SaaS model and receive donations to run StudentLAB and TeacherLAB. We are a strictly B2B company.
