The intersection of e-sports and learning is already widely discussed amongst academics, game designers, and players alike, and the two sectors have moved much closer in recent years. With this new and innovative partnership MASONIC and CanopyLAB will create free courses for youth and parents to be made available on CanopyLAB’s free learning platform StudentLAB about e-sports, focusing on talent development, questions parents often have about their children’s gaming habits, and also the joy of the sport even if you do not intend to become a professional.
Additionally, the partners will launch a virtual training program for e-sports talent development, empowering anyone who is curious to explore e-sports and improve their skills, taking a holistic approach focusing on professional development, the body, and the mind.
We have spent over a decade discussing gamification in learning, but the next frontier is integrating games or e-sports more intentionally in learning situations inside and outside school settings. The world is moving so fast that we, as parents, sometimes struggle to understand how our children spend their time on the iPad or computer and lack basic digital knowledge about how to be supportive and when to set boundaries.
“Playing a game is a learning experience. I am inspired by the MASONICs approach, focusing both on talent development but also on the love of the sports and creating learning experiences that are inclusive and healthy” says CanopyLAB CEO Sahra-Josephine Hjorth about the partnership.
It is important for us to be able to enrich the e-sports community with more opportunities and provide a higher standard within the scene.
“MASONIC is all about developing people and their skills – no matter if it’s soft or hard skills. It is important for us to be able to enrich the e-sports community with more opportunities and provide a higher standard within the scene. Teaming up with CanopyLAB allows us to deliver content internationally, and ensures that everybody will get access, without geographical and cultural limitations. We are looking forward to developing courses, not only online, but also physically on locations together with CanopyLAB” says MASONIC CEO Andreas Elversøe.
