5 Courses on How to Save our Planet

In August 2021, the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC) released a report labeled by the UN Secretary-General António Guterres as a “code red for humanity.” The report, created by 234 scientists from 66 different countries, pointed out that human activities have warmed the climate at an unprecedented rate in the last 2,000 years.

Although it is easy to get overwhelmed by the words “code red,” the details in this report, and the decisions that world leaders are taking behind closed doors at the COP26 in Glasgow, it is important to take a deep breath and figure out our next steps. At this point, the question is not whether climate change is real or whether we have contributed to it but what specific actions we can take in our communities to help save our planet. This is why we compiled this list of recommended free courses related to the UN’s Sustainable Development Goals, which you can take right now in the LAB to learn how to be a changemaker for your community and give you the tools you need to start taking meaningful actions today.

3. Sustainable Development Goal 6: Clean Water and Sanitation

Have you ever experienced having your home’s water supply cut off? Imagine having to walk for hours to get a few liters of clean water every day. 4. Sustainable Development Goal 7: Affordable and Clean Energy

Did you know that 1 in 5 PEOPLE do not have access to electricity? What would your life be like without this vital utility, and what can someone like you do about it? Energy is essential to sustainable development and living. Only by understanding the impact that a lack of clean and affordable energy has on society can we understand why the UN has stated Clean and Affordable Energy as an important goal for sustainable development. This is what we aim to help you achieve through this course.

5. Sustainable Development Goal 13: Climate Action

Did you know that global carbon dioxide (CO2) emissions have increased by almost 50 percent since 1990? This might seem like an all too scientific statistic that doesn’t affect you, but in reality, it is already changing your home, health, and even food. Join the global movement for climate action. Don’t regret tomorrow what you could have done today.

No matter who you are, what you do, or where you live, climate change will have an impact on your life. Moreover, the decisions you make and the actions you take right now will influence the lives of others – for better or worse.
